How do I know which RFID application is right for me?
If one has offsite inventory with significant value, it is wise to keep a tally of when it is used so proper billing can take place. One way to accomplish this is to place a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag on each product with a reader at the entrance of the room. This reader can determine the direction that the inventory moving through the doorway. This reader is connected to a central database via the internet. The cost of the tags and readers are quickly paid off by the decrease in inventory shrinkage. Examples of items falling under this category are "caskets", "telephone/electric poles", "spools of copper wire to track", and "surgery kits".
If the entire inventory is within a 35 foot a radius, then one reader can receive item at a signal from each inventory defined intervals. For example, "Push Button Inventory" can be reported every hour.
The typical tag costs less than $10 and can read through liquids. People can also be identified while the items are being removed from a room creating accountability.
